How is this different from photo sharing websites?

A wall between friends and family. Sharing websites act like a wall between friends and family. You interact with a website. Then the website contacts your friends and family who then interact with the website too.   Your media is trapped. Since the photos are trapped on the sharing website, you choices are limited when it comes to printing, adding them to media players or using them for other things. Waiting on uploads / downloads. Waiting for your photos to upload one-by-one can take a very long time.   Different sites for photos and videos. If you want to share both photos and videos you’ll need two accounts with two different companies.  No high resolution photos. You can only view your photos and videos online.
